The Only Kauai Resort with a Luau Right on the Beach
If you're looking for a Kauai resort with a luau and want the real thing, not a show tucked into a ballroom or staged on a hotel lawn blocks from the water, there's one answer on the South Shore. 'Auli'i Lū'au takes place directly on the beach lawn of the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort on Po'ipū Beach. You sit steps from the Pacific. The waves are behind the stage. The sunset goes down right in front of you.
That's not something every luau on Kaua'i can say.
The Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Is the Only Kauai Resort with a Luau on the Oceanfront
We're set on the beach lawn at the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort, right on Po'ipū Beach on Kaua'i's South Shore.
This is the only South Shore Kauai luau held directly on the ocean. When guests ask us what makes the setting special, the answer is simple: you can hear the ocean between songs. You can watch the horizon shift from gold to deep orange before the torches come up. That's the experience you book when you choose a true Poipu beach luau.
How to Get to the Luau at Sheraton Kaua'i Resort
Arrive at the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort on Po'ipū Beach and park in the event parking lot or use the complimentary valet. The lū'au grounds sit on the beach lawn next to the resort pool, so you go straight from your car to the water's edge. If you're staying nearby in Poipu, some guests walk over along the beach.
No shuttle. No offsite venue. Just arrive, check in, and you're already there.
The Luau Dinner Buffet and Bar at This Kauai Beach Resort
The food at 'Auli'i Lū'au is a full Hawaiian buffet dinner, prepared with the culinary team at the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort. It's the kind of spread that actually represents what people eat on this island.
The buffet includes Hanalei Poi, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Ahi Ogo Poke with Hawaiian sea salt and sesame, Kalua Pig and Cabbage, Huli Huli Rotisserie Chicken, Kaua'i Fresh Fish with sundried tomato caper butter, Island Veggie Chow Mein Noodles, Soba Noodle Salad, Local Style Potato Macaroni Salad, Ginger Shoyu Grilled Sirloin, Steamed Sticky White Rice, and Taro Rolls. Desserts include Guava Cake, Haupia, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Chocolate Brownie, and Fresh Pineapple. See our menu here.
The bar features Mai Tais and Blue Hawaiians made with Koloa Rum, plus wine and beer. Koloa Rum is made right here on Kaua'i, which makes it a natural fit for a native Hawaiian-owned lū'au rooted in this island.
The Polynesian Show: Hula, Fire, and the Stories of the Pacific
This is where the night comes alive. The entertainment program at 'Auli'i Lū'au is performed by Kaua'i's Urahutia Productions and covers the full arc of Polynesian history through mele (song), oli (chant), and hula.
The show opens with Hula Kahiko, the traditional style of Hawaiian dance our Kupuna used to pass down genealogy and legend. It moves into Hula 'Auana, the more melodic style that tells the story of Hawai'i from the pre-missionary era through the reign of the ali'i (royalty).
From there, the Kahiki segment traces the migration of the Ma'ohi people across the Polynesian Triangle to the shores of Kaua'i. You'll see Tahitian Ote'a drumming, the Maori Haka from Aotearoa, and the infectious Samoan Lapalapa and Sasa dances, where the energy pulls you right out of your seat.
Our keiki (children) perform their own hula set, and watching the next generation carry these traditions forward is one of the most meaningful parts of the night.
The grand finale is the Siva Afi, the Samoan fire knife dance. Our chief spins and throws a flaming blade with precision, and the heat is real. It's the kind of finale that has the whole beach lawn on its feet.
Why 'Auli'i Lū'au Is Consistently Named the Best Luau on Kauai
A lot of things separate 'Auli'i Lū'au from the other options on the island. The beachfront location at the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort with a luau is the most obvious one. But it goes further than that.
'Auli'i Lū'au is native Hawaiian-owned and family-run. The people on that stage, the people who greet you at check-in, and the people who built this lū'au from the ground up share a direct connection to the culture they perform. That matters. It changes the quality of what you see and what you feel.
Nights sell out consistently. That tells you everything about how guests feel after they attend.
If you're ready to book the only oceanfront luau on Kaua'i's South Shore, reserve your seat before they're gone.
